The Third Police Precinct is located at 435 Riverdale Avenue, and encompasses the southwest quadrant of the City of Yonkers. The precinct covers the smallest geographical area of the four precincts, but is the most densely populated with more than 59,000 residents. It is unique in its racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic characteristic diversity.
Within its boundaries the Third Precinct contains twenty parks, thirteen schools, twenty-five churches, four synagogues, four senior citizen housing units, five senior community center and one public housing complex.
I
n 2004, the staff of the Third Precinct included a captain, five lieutenants, eleven sergeants, eighty-two police officers, a secretary and a part time garage attendant.

The precinct's officers are a diverse group bringing varied assets and attributes to the performance of the job. Newer officers bring a bright perspective to the department and a positive approach to their duties and functions as police officers. The seasoned veterans bring valuable experience, developed over time, and are always willing to lend support and impart their knowledge to the newer officers.

T
he Third Precinct has increased its community policing program with (6) foot posts and the bicycle patrol. The highly trained bicycle unit is very visible to the public and can silently access areas where police vehicles cannot, offering another variable tool to increase public safety while reducing crime. Officers on foot posts have the opportunity to work within a neighborhood with its residents to identify local police problems and utilize municipal resources at their disposal to eliminate or reduce those problems. Foot posts improve the quality of life of the residents in the area in which they are assigned.

Our objective is to play a significant role in the community by working with other interested agencies to improve the quality of life for the residents of Southwest Yonkers. We take seriously our responsibility to maintain the fragile balance between the power of government and the rights of the citizens.

Community Council

The command staff of the precinct works with the various community groups and elected officials to address their concerns by attending meetings and other functions as the needs arise. Community groups are encouraged and welcomed to add their input at any time by attending the Third Precinct Community Council meeting or calling the Precinct. The Third Precinct salutes its Community Council for its support and input throughout the year. We look forward to the continuance of a productive interaction in the year 2005.
