Commanding Officer
Lieutenant Emil Cavorti

The Medical Control Unit is responsible for monitoring the sick, injured, disabled and light duty members of the Yonkers Police Department, with a view toward and expeditious return to full duty whenever possible. The commanding officer reviews and makes determinations on all 207-C claims for the department. The unit also monitors compliance with the department's Medial Control Policy in order to ensure the proper use of and thereby limit abuse of sick time.

The Medical Control Unit is the custodian of all injury and illness reports/records for the department. The unit acts as the department liaison to the New York State Police and Fire Retirement system by providing documentation (to the system) when required and filing disability applications for members when appropriate. The unit also works in conjunction with the Public Safety Surgeon, the Department of Infectious Disease Coordinator (for exposure to blood borne pathogens), the City of Yonkers EAP Coordinator, and the Department's forensic psychologist. The unit members are also trained for recall duty when vital sign monitoring is needed for ESU members wearing self contained breathing apparatus suits.
